Christmas and festive traditions such as ugly Christmas party

The jumper season is in full swing and the Advent with Christmas traditions, including our own take on Ugly Christmas Party behind the door. We have made it recycled as much as possible.

Every December our group crowds into a bustling British pub, festive menu and any hot chocolate or the pints in hand and proudly wrapped in the loudest, most chaotic ugly Christmas jumpers we can find. What started as a joke has quietly turned into our own sustainable tradition – instead of buying new jumpers each year, we swap last year’s favourites, revive forgotten ones from charity shops, and donate anything we’ve outgrown to local causes.

The ritual has become less about the kitsch and more about the cycle—recycling yarn‑heavy knits, trading stories stitched into every sleeve, and proving that festive fun doesn’t need fast fashion to shine. I have opted for a bold red fluffy number that I have already paired with slinky slip black dress underneath for a charity singalong in SW England. It will be donated. I keep only one nice jumper from last year, very cute and not so crazy. The other jumpers over the time have seen all different ways of being eco as much as possible. I have scouted for the last find in the charity shop and this red beauty will be donated again.

What is your Christmas tradition or customs, the events and fun in Advent or Christmas holiday, festive time? More about my own and ours in next posts. I love Advent time, all the music and the events and buzz and smell of cinnamon and so on, but for me it is also time to slow down, at least inside, and reflect. We are all busy, but I have tried last years to make it nice and relaxed as much as possible.
